Agriculture Minister Assures National Rice Stock is Secure: No Need to Doubt It!

Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman emphasised that the government’s rice reserve stock, managed by Perum Bulog, remains stable amid global geopolitical turbulence, including in the Middle East. Currently, the national rice stock is recorded at 4.5 million tonnes.

“(The government’s rice stock) is now approximately 4.5 million tonnes. This is the highest during the existence of this republic. So, no need to doubt it,” said Amran while inspecting the Bulog Panaikang Warehouse in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Sunday (5/4/2026), quoted from Antara.

He explained that this surge in rice stock is the result of various strategic government policies to boost production in a short time.

“In line with the instructions of Father President Prabowo Subianto, the President’s top priority programme has proven able to increase rice production in a short time, just one year,” he stated.

Amran revealed that the high rice stock has even exceeded the available warehouse capacity. Currently, Bulog’s warehouse capacity is around 3 million tonnes, so the government has had to rent additional warehouses up to 2 million tonnes.

“Our warehouses are full, capacity is only 3 million tonnes, now we’ve rented 2 million tonnes of warehouses. We will rent more in the future. Possibly, in the next 10 days, 20 days, the stock (of rice) will already be 5 million tonnes,” he said.

He emphasised that this achievement is the highest in Indonesia’s history.

“Have you ever heard of the Republic of Indonesia having a rice stock of 5 million tonnes? So, no need to worry, food is secure,” he asserted.

“In South Sulawesi alone, it used to be 300 thousand tonnes, today (rice stock) is 761 thousand tonnes, double. The entire Indonesia stock is 4.5 million tonnes. In 20 days, 5 million tonnes and it is not impossible in the next two months 6 million tonnes,” he explained.

To support the absorption of farmers’ harvest results, the government continues to increase storage capacity. Amran even compared the current situation to before, when warehouses were rented out due to low stock.

“Imagine, in the past, the warehouses were rented to people because they were empty. Now we are renting warehouses,” he said.

He assured that the availability of this rice has been directly verified through field checks.

“We must check directly. We must not pretend. We see it in front, we see the trucks. This is the rearmost warehouse, all full,” Amran stressed.

“Please convey this to those who do not believe. And those who do not believe, they may check the warehouses throughout Indonesia,” he added.

With this condition, the government is optimistic that national food resilience will remain maintained in the long term. Especially if considering stocks in the horeca sector and the ongoing harvest potential.

“That means, for the next 11 months, it is secure. Stock for the Indonesian people for the next 11 months is secure,” said Amran.
