Agriculture Minister Amran Strengthens Indonesia-Russia Agricultural Partnership During State Visit
What did Andi Amran Sulaiman do during President Prabowo's state visit at the official invitation of President Vladimir Putin? As reported, the President also attended the St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025, where Prabowo was scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the prestigious forum. Meanwhile, the bilateral meeting with President Vladimir Putin covered discussions on a number of strategic agendas.
Besides Amran, ministers participating in the state delegation included Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, and Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan. Also present were Investment and Downstream Industries Minister/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani and Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Brian Yuliarto.
Agriculture Minister Amran was actively involved in a number of agenda items during the visit, particularly in efforts to strengthen the Indonesia-Russia strategic partnership in the agricultural sector.
"Russia is a country with a modern and efficient agricultural system, excelling in large-scale agricultural technology. Collaboration with Russia is very important, especially in agricultural technology and innovation," said Agriculture Minister Amran in St Petersburg on Thursday, 19 June 2025.
Amran emphasised that the differences in climate and geographical conditions between Indonesia and Russia actually open up opportunities for mutually complementary cooperation in food production and agricultural commodities. He also highlighted Indonesia's achievements in rice and maize production, which have increased significantly.
"This increase in production not only strengthens national food security but also contributes to global food supply stability," he said.
Indonesia-Russia cooperation serves as a bridge to bring Indonesian agricultural products further into Eastern European markets. With Russia's position as a major power in the Eurasian region and a growing trade partner, the visit was regarded as a strategic opportunity to expand market access and strengthen export networks for Indonesian agricultural products.
Agriculture Minister Amran stressed that this move is in line with President Prabowo's vision of making the agricultural sector the backbone of national self-sufficiency and the primary driver of an innovation and export-based economy.
