Jakarta (ANTARA) – The real-time communication technology platform, Agora, together with the IT services company, FPT, have announced a strategic partnership to expand the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in the banking and financial services sector for the Indonesian market and throughout Southeast Asia.

This collaboration combines Agora’s real-time engagement and conversational AI capabilities with FPT’s regional reach and enterprise integration expertise. The aim is to help financial institutions improve the quality of service to customers while also driving efficiency in digital and operational services.

“By combining FPT’s enterprise AI capabilities and Agora’s real-time conversational infrastructure, we are enabling banks and financial institutions in Southeast Asia to deliver more efficient, responsive, and reliable digital experiences at scale,” said FPT Smart Cloud Chief Revenue Officer Mark Hall Andrew in a written statement on Wednesday.

He explained that banks and financial institutions can deliver secure, intelligent, and live interactions through voice, chat, or video channels by integrating Agora Conversational AI (ConvoAI) and low-latency real-time communication infrastructure into FPT’s enterprise AI ecosystem.

The joint solution also enables financial institutions to implement AI-based virtual assistants, while also providing a seamless human-in-the-loop consultation experience through chat, voice, and video in real-time.

FPT’s AI has been used by more than 40 banks and financial institutions globally. Its applications include digital banking services, consumer finance, and large-scale customer service operations.

Indonesia’s digital banking ecosystem

Indonesia is known as one of the most dynamic digital banking and financial services markets in Southeast Asia. Data from Bank Indonesia shows that digital banking transactions grew by 54.89 percent year-on-year until September 2024, driven by transfer activity, QRIS payments, and increased activity through mobile channels.

In addition, according to data from the International Trade Administration, as many as 56.3 million users were recorded as transacting through QRIS in early 2025. This figure illustrates the large scale of digital-based financial interactions in Indonesia.

“As financial services in Indonesia continue to become more digital, trust, security, and compliance are as important as innovation,” said Agora CEO Tony Zhao.

For this reason, he believes that Conversational AI is playing an increasingly important role in helping institutions expand their customer service capacity, automate routine tasks, support digital onboarding processes, and provide real-time assistance across various channels (omnichannel) without neglecting security and governance aspects.

“By combining Agora’s real-time conversational intelligence and FPT’s enterprise AI ecosystem, we are enabling banks and financial institutions to interact with customers in a more natural, efficient, and reliable way, at scale,” said Tony Zhao.
