Domestic tourism interest in Indonesia’s diverse destinations surged significantly throughout 2026. The digital travel platform Agoda recorded a substantial uptick in searches for domestically based accommodation during the Labour Day long weekend in 2026. Based on Agoda’s latest report, cited by Travel Daily Media (19/5/26), several Indonesian destinations saw higher hotel and lodging searches than in the previous year. The trend indicates that domestic tourism remains the public’s primary choice for relaxation, especially during long weekends.

Meanwhile, Surakarta, also known as Solo, recorded a large increase of 117 percent. Agoda says travellers are attracted by the region’s cultural riches and the quieter, more comfortable urban atmosphere for short breaks. The two destinations are considered suitable for travellers seeking a short trip without venturing too far from a major city.

In addition to Puncak and Solo, Yogyakarta remains one of the favourites for domestic tourists. Agoda notes a 61 percent rise in travel interest to Yogyakarta. The City of Gudeg is known for its complete mix of cultural tourism, beaches, cuisine and mountains.

Bandung also remains popular, offering cooler air, nature tourism, and a thriving café culture. Agoda highlights attractions such as Tangkuban Perahu and Bandung’s creative districts as magnets for travellers.

Meanwhile, Semarang recorded a 60 percent rise in searches. Travellers are said to be attracted to a blend of historical tourism, colonial-era buildings, and hillside areas offering a different atmosphere. Agoda notes this trend shows travellers are increasingly seeking more relaxed and authentic experiences rather than merely city-break holidays.

In Agoda’s 2026 Travel Outlook Report, travellers in Asia, including Indonesia, are inclined to shorter trips but more frequent occurrences. Agoda calls this trend the emergence of the “Perpetual Traveller.” A total of 32 percent of Indonesian travellers even plan to undertake more than 11 trips throughout 2026, signalling a shift in travel habits toward greater flexibility and emphasis on experiences.
