Agency goes ahead on Bekasi's capital
JAKARTA (JP): A realtor, in a bid to make its housing complex
the capital of the Bekasi regency, has set aside a 3,500-square-
meter plot for the Bekasi Land Agency to build a new office on.
The agency, which oversees the issuance of land titles, is
currently accommodated on the third and fourth floors of the
Flatted Factory building owned by developer PT Lippo Cikarang,
before the construction of its new office is completed in 1998.
PT Lippo Cikarang's managing director in charge of the
company's master plan, Yuke Susiloputro, told The Jakarta Post
yesterday that the relocation of the land agency to its complex
is part of the company's scheme to accommodate as many government
institutions as possible.
According to Yuke, the presence of many government
institutions and offices in Lippo Cikarang housing estate could
be an opportunity for the area to become the capital of Bekasi
regency, which is located some 30 kilometers east of Jakarta.
The Bekasi regent said early last year that Lippo Cikarang
estate, which covers an area of 5,000 hectares and consists of
industrial areas, business centers, public facilities and a
housing complex, is likely to be made the regency's capital.
But Yuke said that it remains to be seen whether the company's
ambition can be realized as it is up to the government to decide
whether the estate could be developed into the capital of the
regency.
An official of the West Java Land Agency, Masry Asyik, said
yesterday that the local land agency needed a new office building
as the old one lacks the space to cope with the growing
number of people coming to the office to arrange land titles. (03)
