Agam District Government Provides Four Permanent Housing Locations for Disaster Survivors
The Agam District Government in West Sumatra has allocated four locations for the construction of permanent housing units for survivors of hydrometeorological disasters that struck the region in late November 2025.
“These four locations are already available and land clearing work using heavy equipment has already begun at some sites,” said Rinaldi, Head of the Agam District Housing and Settlement Area Agency (Perkim), in Lubuk Basung on Monday.
The land, comprising 5-6 hectares, has a capacity of 325 housing units and can accommodate collective relocation of survivors in Malalak, Ampek Koto, Matur, and Tanjung Raya subdistricts.
“The land is government-owned and suitable for relocating survivors from four subdistricts,” he said.
He added that another location is situated at Padang Tarok, in Salareh Aia Utara village, Palembayan subdistrict, spanning one hectare with a capacity of 75 units.
A further site is the Fish Seed Centre land in Gumarang, in Tigo Koto Silungkang village, Palembayan subdistrict, measuring 1.1 hectares and accommodating 60 units.
A reserve location is located at a football field of State Primary School 05 Kayu Pasak, in Salareh Aia village, Palembayan subdistrict.
“This is a reserve permanent housing location because temporary shelters with 117 units are currently being erected at that site,” he noted.
He acknowledged that an alternative location involves procuring approximately 3-4 hectares of land in Salareh Aia Timur, Palembayan subdistrict. The land has been surveyed jointly with community leaders, pending final assessment by the West Sumatra Region III Housing Provision Implementation Centre and the West Sumatra Provincial Housing, Settlement Area and Land Agency.
“This survey will determine whether the location is suitable for collective relocation or not,” he said.
