Jakarta, VIVA – House of Representatives member Ahmad Sahroni has been reinstated as Deputy Chairman of Commission III, after previously receiving a suspension sanction from his party and the House Ethics Council (MKD) over a controversy some months ago.

Sahroni was reappointed as a leader of Commission III by Deputy Speaker of the House Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, who oversees political, legal, and security affairs. Commission III itself handles law enforcement matters.

“Can Ahmad Sahroni be approved for appointment as Deputy Chairman of Commission III?” Dasco asked, receiving agreement from Commission III members present at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday, 19 February 2026.

Dasco explained that the appointment followed receipt of a letter from the NasDem Party faction leadership, numbered F-NasDem/107/DPR RI/II/2026 and dated 12 February 2026, regarding the replacement of the Deputy Chairman of Commission III, the faction coordinator for the Budget Committee, and a Budget Committee member.

Sahroni replaces Rusdi Masse Mappasessu, who had been elevated to Deputy Chairman of Commission III as a temporary replacement when Sahroni was suspended.

Ahmad Sahroni expressed his gratitude to Dasco and fellow Commission III members. He also extended Ramadan greetings.

“Thank you to the MKD leadership for hearing my case, and I hope to be a better person going forward,” Sahroni said.

Previously, in late August 2025, Ahmad Sahroni was removed by the NasDem faction from his position as Deputy Chairman of Commission III and reassigned as an ordinary member of Commission I. The removal came amid intense public scrutiny of Sahroni following controversial remarks he had made.

The NasDem Party’s central executive board subsequently suspended both Sahroni and Nafa Urbach from their parliamentary duties over the controversy. NasDem stated at the time that remarks which offended and hurt the feelings of the public constituted a deviation from the party’s principles.

The House Ethics Council then handed down a punishment of six months’ suspension, effective from the date the decision was read and counted from the initial suspension imposed by the NasDem central executive board.
