The area in front of the IRTI Monas entrance in Central Jakarta, previously filled with illegally parked cars, now appears empty. Monas visitors bringing vehicles opt to park within the Monas grounds.

detikcom observations at the location on Tuesday (24/3/2026) at 13:00 WIB showed not a single car stopping or parking on the roadside in front of the IRTI Monas parking area. The situation is now free of illegal parking.

Meanwhile, traffic flow around the area appears smooth. On the roadside in front of IRTI, only tourist double-decker buses are parked in front of the stop, waiting for tourists to board.

Additionally, several horse-drawn carriages are lined up in the area waiting for passengers. Several DKI Transportation Agency officers are seen guarding various points, including near the IRTI entrance. Occasionally, they give warnings to drivers attempting to pull over for too long.

One Monas visitor, Arkan (34), said he never parks his vehicle on the roadside using illegal parking attendants. He admitted to once being charged Rp 25,000 per car by an illegal parking attendant in the Lapangan Banteng area.

“I never want to park outside. I always look for spots inside. If it’s full, I’ll look for parking in the nearby buildings,” said Arkan when met at the location.

“Because once I was playing at Lapangan Banteng and got charged Rp 25,000 by the parking attendant. In the end, I parked at the Ministry of Economic Affairs building across the street. It was even free,” he added.

Previously, a woman complained that her car tyre was deflated while parking in the National Monument (Monas) area in Central Jakarta. The video went viral on social media.

Viewed by detikcom on Instagram social media on Monday (23/3/2026), without showing her face, the woman recorded the condition of several cars that had their tyres deflated.

In the video, the cars were parked on the shoulder and main body of Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, located on the south side of the Monas area. More than three cars were seen with deflated tyres.

In response to the video, the Head of DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, said the deflation was carried out as an enforcement action against illegal parking at Monas.

“It was done so that residents do not park haphazardly. We have conducted socialisation and urged residents not to park on the main road,” said Syafrin when confirmed on Monday (23/3).

“Officers are always directing vehicles to park at IRTI Monas or other locations with parking spaces such as Gambir or Lapangan Banteng,” he continued.

28 vehicles that were illegally parked around the Monas area were actioned. Dozens of illegally parked vehicles had their tyres deflated.

“As many as 28 vehicles (had their tyres deflated),” said Syafrin.
