After Bantargebang ITSWM Landslide: Rubbish Truck Queues Snake for Miles, Drivers Wait Dozens of Hours
Bekasi — The landslide at Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST) in Bekasi on Sunday, 8 March 2026, claimed lives and triggered prolonged congestion due to queues of waste trucks waiting to unload their cargo.
Since Tuesday, 10 March 2026, hundreds of waste trucks belonging to the Jakarta Provincial Government have been forced to queue along roadsides to enter the TPST area.
The queue formed because only a few disposal points were opened and daily truck quotas were restricted. Congestion occurred along Siliwangi Road, Bojong Rawalumbu, and extending to the entrance of Bantargebang TPST, with vehicle queues snaking approximately 8 kilometres.
Observations by local media on Thursday, 13 March 2026, showed numerous waste trucks parked along roadsides whilst waiting their turn to enter the disposal area. Meanwhile, other vehicles such as cars and motorcycles could only pass on the remaining single lane of the road.
Rahmadi (60), a driver for Jakarta’s Environmental Services Agency (DLH), reported having to wait for hours to access the Bantargebang TPST area. “If I’m still on Siliwangi Road at 10.00 in the morning, it will be 5 o’clock in the afternoon before I can enter the TPST,” he said when met on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
According to Rahmadi, congestion began on Tuesday. He initially assumed the queue would last only one day, but it persisted for several days. “I thought it would only be congested yesterday. I didn’t realise it would get this bad and we couldn’t move,” he said.
The situation exhausted drivers who had to wait long periods whilst carrying waste loads. “If this continues, drivers will be worn out,” he added.
Similar complaints were made by Bram (44), another truck driver who had just left the disposal area. “I’ve just come out of the disposal area. The congestion is really severe,” Bram said.
