JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto has emphasised that Indonesia pursues a non-aligned foreign policy, refraining from siding with any particular country.

The Head of State further clarified that Indonesia does not seek to apportion blame to any party regarding the conflict in the Middle East.

“That’s why, with all due respect, the best approach is to honour all powers, and if we maintain good relations with everyone, we might prove useful,” Prabowo stated during a dialogue with journalists and experts, as quoted from a video shared by the Presidential Secretariat on Sunday (21/3/2026).

Therefore, Indonesia needs to adopt a neutral stance and avoid taking sides.

“For instance, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are our friends too, fellow OIC members and our allies, yet they support opposing sides in the ongoing war,” he explained.

With Indonesia’s non-aligned position, Prabowo hopes it can be beneficial in serving as a mediator in the Middle East conflict.

“If we are still accepted by Iran but trusted by the Gulf countries, that might be good; we could act as mediators, though I don’t know how effective that would be,” he said.

According to him, this also represents an advantage for Indonesia, given its good intentions and relations with all major powers.

“I believe we are on the right path by prioritising, in the end, our national interests. In my view, we are highly relevant, and moving forward, we must remain non-aligned and non-bloc. We must not become involved in any war,” he elaborated.
