AFC rejects Fok FIFA nomination
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Asian soccer powers will vote together to stop the son of controversial Hong Kong tycoon Henry Fok taking one of the continent's places on the FIFA executive.
Fok, a property and hotels tycoon with close links to China, had held Asia's seat on the world body's executive since 1978.
He announced last year he would be stepping down but his son Timothy will be one of two candidates to take over in a vote on June 5, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) said yesterday.
The other contender and favorite is Qatar Football Association president Mohammed Bin Hammam.
