AEON Partners with Baznas to Distribute IDR 4.1 Billion in Sumatra Recovery Aid
Infrastructure damage and economic losses from natural disasters that struck Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra in late December 2025 continue to impact the social and economic activities of affected communities. This situation has prompted the need for recovery support, particularly in basic service sectors.
AEON Group, together with the AEON 1% Club Foundation, has channelled humanitarian assistance through Indonesia’s National Zakat Board (Baznas) as part of efforts to support the recovery process in affected regions. The symbolic donation handover was conducted by AEON Indonesia President Director Takahiro Osugi to Baznas RI Collection Division Head Rizaludin Kurniawan. Also present were AEON Mall Indonesia President Director Tetsuya Kimura and AEON Delight Indonesia President Director Masatoshi Sashie.
“From late December through January 2026, AEON collected donations from employees and customers of AEON Group Indonesia. These also came from employees and customers of AEON Group Japan, as well as the AEON 1% Club Foundation,” said Osugi.
The collected funds came from various AEON entities in Indonesia as well as contributions from Japan and the AEON 1% Club Foundation. Total assistance distributed reached approximately IDR 4.1 billion.
According to Osugi, the support is aimed not only at meeting immediate needs but also at supporting long-term recovery processes, particularly in education and health sectors.
“AEON Group and the AEON 1% Club Foundation are committed to providing not only emergency relief but also supporting long-term recovery processes—particularly in education and health,” he said.
Baznas stated that assistance will be used to support recovery of education and health services. Planned programmes include renovation of two schools and three madrasahs, provision of equipment for 600 students, healthcare services, and logistical assistance for 500 families.
Rizaludin said Baznas has been distributing assistance since the disaster began and is now entering the recovery phase to help communities resume social and economic activities.
“Baznas has entered a recovery programme to accelerate the restoration of social, economic, and educational life of affected communities. Collaboration with AEON is tangible evidence of the spirit of mutual aid,” he said.
Osugi added that cooperation between AEON and Baznas has been established since 2018 as part of efforts to ensure assistance reaches the correct targets.
“We believe that through collaboration with Baznas, this assistance can provide real benefits to the community,” he said.
Baznas also appreciated the support provided by AEON management, employees, and customers who contributed to the fundraising.
“Our hope is that this step can help accelerate post-disaster recovery, particularly in the education sector, and provide new spirit to communities that are rising,” Osugi concluded.
