AEB updates labor deal

JAKARTA (JP): The management of American Express Bank (AEB) Ltd. and the bank's labor union signed an updated labor agreement earlier this week.

The agreement was signed by the head of Jakarta Manpower Office, Freddy P. Tuamelly, Shinta R. Marbun, the bank's spokeswoman said yesterday.

The agreement, the tenth version so far, is good through 1997.

Country Manager of AEB Ltd. Douglas H. Short III said that a harmonious working relationship between the management and its employees is a company priority, which is why the agreement is updated every two years. "Therefore, having a collective labor agreement is very important."

The agreement states that the company will stimulate and grant opportunities to its employees and provide fair wages and training for staff members that show ability and a desire to bear greater responsibility.
