Planet Hollywood
The world's only dining experience entirely inspired by the
world of movies, Planet Hollywood, launched its 16th restaurant
in Jakarta in 1994.
Planet Hollywood Jakarta is Asia's premier dining experience,
and is leading the way for another 16 Planet Hollywoods to open
up across the region.
The concept for Planet Hollywood was originated by Keith
Barish, the film producer responsible for "The Fugitive",
"Sophie's Choice" and "9 1/2 Weeks". In 1989, he met restaurateur
Robert Earl, and the two quickly struck up a partnership. Soon
afterwards, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and Bruce
Willis joined as partners.
The first Planet Hollywood was launched in New York in October
1991 with a glittering star-studded party. While here in Jakarta,
special bleachers were set up to accommodate thousands of people
at the "Planet Hollywood Open Air Extravaganza".
Following 16 launches in major cities, Planet Hollywood has
proved to be a resounding success, enjoying endless worldwide
media attention and constant queues.
Planet Hollywood Jakarta is located in Jakarta's central
business area, conveniently next to Kartika Chandra Hotel. The
2,000 square meter venue will seat 380 diners with an additional
100 persons in the spacious bar area, making it one of Jakarta's
largest restaurant establishments.
Planet Hollywood features an extensive signature memorabilia
collection, which has now become the restaurant's trademark. The
Jakarta venue also features the dinosaur head from Jurrasic Park,
Michael Keaton's flying cape from Batman Returns, The Cyborg from
Terminator 2, Sylvester Stallone On Ice from Demolition Man, the
Alien head from the movie Aliens, Kevin Costner's costume from
Robin Hood: The Prince of Thieves and one of the dresses Lucille
Ball wore on I Love Lucy, just to mention a few.
The menu echoes other Planet Hollywood restaurants with fresh
dishes that have become integral to the new Californian classic
cuisine, including unusual pastas, exotic salads, burgers,
pizzas, smoked and grilled fish and meats, as well as a range of
desserts. A selection of Indo-Californian dishes are also on
offer, as well as daily specials.
Planet Hollywood Jakarta's merchandise shop is situated in the
restaurant itself. Items on sale include T-shirts, caps,
sweatshirts, jackets and watches.
