Sekolah Tiara Bangsa caters for the needs
of both expatriate and Indonesian children

In Indonesia's major cities such as Jakarta, the number of
schools that have adopted international standards in their
education programs is numerous.

However, finding a true international school that can meet the
needs of both expatriate and Indonesian students can be confusing
and difficult.

Sekolah Tiara Bangsa is one of a few international schools
that emphasizes both international and national curricula in its
education programs. Thus, the school can better cater for the
needs of both expatriate and Indonesian children.

With the concept of "schools within a school", Sekolah Tiara
Bangsa, which was established in May 1996 as a national-plus
school, provides the Early Childhood Center, Elementary, Middle
and Senior Schools.

The education program of the school's Early Childhood Center
(for children between two and five years) is, for example, based
on highly acclaimed principles from world-wide educators to
ensure the best possible learning outcome.

Sekolah Tiara Bangsa implements the Primary Years Program
(PYP) of the International Baccalaureate Organization as the
basis of its Elementary School Program, which runs for six years
from Preparatory Grade (five years old) to Grade 5 (10 years
old). The school also adopts the Middle Years Program (MYP)
developed by the IBO for its Middle School Program, which
embraces Grade 6 (11 years old) to Grade 10 (15 years old).

In fact, three of the school's Indonesian teachers have been
selected as trainers and IB authorization leaders for Indonesian
schools intending to implement PYP and MYP programs.

In its senior school, which accommodates students aged 16
years and above, Sekolah Tiara Bangsa implements a specially
designed program to assist students intending to continue their
study either at an Indonesian or an overseas university.

Although English is used as a language of instruction, Bahasa
Indonesia is used in civics and religious classes.

"As a National Plus and International Baccalaureate (IB)
School, Sekolah Tiara Bangsa provides opportunities for students
aged two to 18 years to receive internationally recognized
education, learn to be open-minded, critical, to question
everything, and dare to take risks through the school's academic,
religious, co- and extracurricular programs," says Daryl Forde,
the director of Sekolah Tiara Bangsa.

The school offers a range of extracurricular activities such
as sports, dancing and martial arts. To provide more challenges
for its students, the school holds inter-school competitions, a
science fair and a community service program.

Students also gain intercultural experiences through outdoor
education camps in Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore.
"They observe other cultures, habits and lifestyles. We want our
students to be innovative because if they take risks, Indonesia
will improve," Forde says.

During the 2005-2006 academic year, the school will move to
its new, large and modern campus on Jl. Bantarjati, East Jakarta.

The new school complex, which occupies a five-hectare site is
fully air-conditioned, and equipped with teaching, learning,
cultural, and sporting facilities as well as science
laboratories, music, dance, art, computer and technology studios,
a performing arts theater and lecture hall, and many other
supporting facilities.
