Adian Napitupulu Supports Postponement of Indian Pickup Truck Imports, Reminds of Local Content Requirements
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PDI-Perjuangan supports the proposal to postpone the import of 105,000 pickup trucks from India for the operational needs of the Merah Putih Village/Urban Cooperative (Kopdes Merah Putih).
Deputy Secretary-General of PDI-P, Adian Napitupulu, reminded that import policies should not harm the domestic automotive industry that has met the Local Content (TKDN) requirements.
“The pickup trucks from India. Previously, Mr. Dasco stated that we should wait for the President’s decision regarding this. So, let’s wait,” said Adian when met at the PDI-P Party School, Jakarta, Wednesday (February 25, 2026).
“So, according to us, we agree with one of the DPR leaders who said that we should wait. Let’s wait. That’s about the cars,” he continued.
He mentioned that the average local content in the domestic automotive industry has reached around 40 percent.
Therefore, the decision to postpone is a proper step to ensure that the policy taken still considers the interests of the national industry.
“Does the import from India also meet that criteria? We don’t want manufacturers that have established themselves in Indonesia and have met the 40 percent TKDN to lose opportunities due to other factors,” he concluded.
Dasco said that the postponement is necessary so that the government can carefully assess the readiness of the domestic industry and seek input from national business actors.
“The President will discuss the details of the import when he returns. And of course, the President will also seek opinions and calculate the readiness of domestic companies,” said Dasco at the DPR RI Building, Monday (February 23, 2026).
PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara stated that it is importing vehicles from India to support the operational needs of Kopdes Merah Putih.
The import includes 35,000 units of 4x4 pickup trucks from Mahindra & Mahindra, 35,000 units of 4x4 pickup trucks from Tata Motors, and 35,000 units of six-wheeled trucks.
Director of Agrinas Pangan Nusantara, Joao Angelo De Sousa Mota, said that the selection of products from India was based on the factor of more competitive prices and the limited domestic production capacity to meet the needs in a short time.
In addition, the national production capacity is considered insufficient for the procurement of up to 70,000 units of 4x4 pickup trucks within the targeted period without disrupting the distribution of vehicles for other needs.
The vehicles will be used to support the distribution of commodities to areas with difficult terrain, including access to rice fields that require four-wheel drive vehicles.
