JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PDI-Perjuangan supports the proposal to\npostpone the import of 105,000 pickup trucks from India for the\noperational needs of the Merah Putih Village\/Urban Cooperative (Kopdes\nMerah Putih).<\/p>\n
Deputy Secretary-General of PDI-P, Adian Napitupulu, reminded that\nimport policies should not harm the domestic automotive industry that\nhas met the Local Content (TKDN) requirements.<\/p>\n

\u201cDoes the import from India also meet that criteria? We don\u2019t want\nmanufacturers that have established themselves in Indonesia and have met\nthe 40 percent TKDN to lose opportunities due to other factors,\u201d he\nconcluded.<\/p>\n
Dasco said that the postponement is necessary so that the government\ncan carefully assess the readiness of the domestic industry and seek\ninput from national business actors.<\/p>\n

PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara stated that it is importing vehicles from\nIndia to support the operational needs of Kopdes Merah Putih.<\/p>\n
The import includes 35,000 units of 4x4 pickup trucks from Mahindra\n& Mahindra, 35,000 units of 4x4 pickup trucks from Tata Motors, and\n35,000 units of six-wheeled trucks.<\/p>\n
Director of Agrinas Pangan Nusantara, Joao Angelo De Sousa Mota, said\nthat the selection of products from India was based on the factor of\nmore competitive prices and the limited domestic production capacity to\nmeet the needs in a short time.<\/p>\n
In addition, the national production capacity is considered\ninsufficient for the procurement of up to 70,000 units of 4x4 pickup\ntrucks within the targeted period without disrupting the distribution of\nvehicles for other needs.<\/p>\n
The vehicles will be used to support the distribution of commodities\nto areas with difficult terrain, including access to rice fields that\nrequire four-wheel drive vehicles.<\/p>\n
