Jakarta — Adi Budiarso, Director of Banking Development, Financial Markets and Other Financing at the Ministry of Finance, has stated that the government remains open to reviewing its cryptocurrency taxation policy.

Budiarso indicated that any evaluation would take into account practices implemented in other countries as well as feedback from industry participants. “We will review this again. This is about how we position our policy in the context of, for example, comparing it with several other countries,” he said following a fit and proper test hearing for an OJK deputy commissioner candidate on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

The government is also monitoring input from the cryptocurrency industry, including discussions regarding the tax rate previously proposed by industry associations at 0.21 per cent. Budiarso emphasised that the government remains receptive to feedback from cryptocurrency sector players.

He also noted that the development of cryptocurrency assets represents a form of innovation in the financial sector. In this context, the government has introduced a regulatory framework including financial technology innovation (ITSK) and digital financial assets, including cryptocurrencies.

“We have introduced ITSK and digital financial assets including crypto. From a regulatory perspective, we already have knowledge equivalent to, or even matching, that of other countries. This means we already have a legal framework that is comparable,” he stated.

According to the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP), cryptocurrency tax revenue collected has totalled Rp1.93 trillion through January 2026. These revenues comprised Rp246.45 billion in 2022, Rp220.83 billion in 2023, Rp620.4 billion in 2024, Rp796.74 billion in 2025, and Rp43.45 billion through 2026.

The cryptocurrency tax revenue consists of Article 22 income tax (PPh 22) totalling Rp1.05 trillion and domestic value-added tax (PPN DN) totalling Rp875.23 billion.
