JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Ade Armando has stated that he is resigning from the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), after being reported to the police by 40 mass organisations over alleged religious blasphemy.

“Through this press conference, I declare my resignation from PSI. There is no conflict between me and PSI, but I am stepping down for the common good,” Ade Armando said in his statement on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

This decision was taken because many groups are exploiting the issue and orchestrating attacks on PSI.

“So my criticisms have never been consulted with PSI’s leadership, nor have I ever asked PSI first; it is entirely my journalistic work,” Ade Armando continued.

Ade Armando was born in Jakarta on 24 September 1961. He is the youngest child of Major Jus Gani and Juniar Gani.

His father was known as a diplomat who once served as an attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Morocco and the Philippines.

Ade spent his childhood in Bogor. He completed his primary to secondary education in that city, from SD Banjarsari I, SMP Negeri 2 Bogor, to SMA Negeri 2 Bogor.

Although he was initially directed to follow in his father’s footsteps in diplomacy, his interest in media and communication led him to choose a degree in Communication Studies.

In the academic world, Ade Armando is known as a permanent lecturer at FISIP UI since the 1990s.

He completed his master’s degree in Communication Studies at the University of Indonesia, and earned a Master of Science in population studies from Florida State University, United States (US). He also obtained his doctoral degree from UI in 2006.

In addition, Ade has experience in media research and monitoring. He once served as Media Research Manager at Taylor Nelson Sofres and Director of Media Watch & Consumer Center.

In the academic environment, Ade was entrusted to serve as Head of the S1 Communication Studies Programme at FISIP UI from 2001 to 2003.
