Ade Armando Fears Video Case Involving JK Will Drag PSI into 2029 Elections
Social media activist Ade Armando has revealed the reason for his resignation from the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) as a consequence of reports regarding alleged incitement and hate speech.
Ade stated that his legal case has dragged the party too far and he does not want it to continue.
“People will make it difficult for PSI’s work in various places ahead of the 2029 elections,” said Ade during a press conference at the PSI central executive board office on Tuesday (5/5).
Ade, along with Permadi Arya, was reported to the Metro Jaya Regional Police over alleged incitement and provocation stemming from a clip of a sermon by the 10th and 12th Vice President of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla (JK), delivered at the Gadjah Mada University Mosque (UGM) some time ago.
The report was filed by the Maluku Advocacy Profession Alliance (APAM) and registered under number LP/B/2767/IV/2026/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA.
APAM representative and reporter Paman Nurlette told journalists on Monday (20/4) that the clip of JK’s sermon, uploaded by Ade on the Cokro TV YouTube channel and by Permadi on his Facebook account, has caused uproar and unrest in the public sphere.
Nurlette reported Ade and Permadi for alleged violations of Article 48 in conjunction with Article 32 of the ITE Law or Article 243 of the Criminal Code.
Recently, 40 Islamic mass organisations under the Alliance for Religious Harmony also reported Ade and Permadi to the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency on Tuesday (5/5). The report was received and registered under number LP/B/185/V/2026/SPKT/Bareskrim Polri dated 4 May 2026.
“There are narratives being built where an incomplete video is presented to the public, namely a clipped video, and narratives are constructed leading to an incomplete perspective or conclusion in society,” said the representative of LBH Syarikat Islam/SEMMI, Gurun Arisastra.
The reports against Ade and Permadi began when Jusuf Kalla or JK was reported by several parties, including the central executive board of the Indonesian Christian Youth Movement (GAMKI), to the police for alleged blasphemy in the clipped video of his sermon at the UGM Mosque during Ramadan or March 2026.
The GAMKI general chairman who brought the report to the police, Sahat Martin Philip Sinurat, is a PSI cadre serving as acting chairman of the PSI North Sumatra regional executive board and head of PSI’s politics division at the time.
However, the PSI central executive board emphasised that it has no involvement with its cadre who questioned and reported JK to the police.
Not only Ade and Permadi, the 40 organisations also included a report against PSI Council Secretary Grace Natalie.
Personally, Ade admitted that his legal cases are not new. However, the attacks on PSI this time can no longer be tolerated. Even, the case is said to indirectly involve the seventh President, Joko Widodo.
Therefore, he claimed to have no objection to being brought face-to-face with JK to discuss the case, including apologising to the Muslim and Christian communities over the blasphemy accusations.
“If I am brought face-to-face with Mr JK, I am willing. Or if I have to apologise to the Muslim community, for example, or the Christian community, I am ready, but I will say that I never incited division, I never insulted religion. But it keeps being repeated,” he said.
