Ade Armando and Permadi Arya have been reported to the Metro Jaya Regional Police regarding allegations of incitement and provocation stemming from an excerpt of a sermon by Indonesia’s 10th and 12th Vice President, Jusuf Kalla (JK), delivered at the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Mosque some time ago.

The report was submitted by the Maluku Alliance of Advocate Professions (APAM) and registered under number LP/B/2767/IV/2026/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA.

“We visited the Metro Jaya Police headquarters to file a police report on the alleged criminal acts of incitement and provocation purportedly committed by Mr. Ade Armando and Permadi Arya via social media,” said APAM representative and complainant Paman Nurlette to reporters on Monday (20/4).

Nurlette stated that the excerpt of JK’s sermon, uploaded by Ade on the Cokro TV YouTube channel and by Permadi on his Facebook account, has caused uproar and disorder in the public sphere.

This, he said, has triggered negative views, hatred, and enmity.

“I am absolutely certain that if the video had been posted in its entirety, without being edited as we see now, the public would not have been contaminated or provoked by such a video,” he remarked.

On that basis, Nurlette reported Ade and Permadi for alleged violations of Article 48 in conjunction with Article 32 of the ITE Law and/or Article 243 of the Criminal Code.

The report includes several pieces of evidence, including the full video of JK’s sermon, the excerpt uploaded by Ade on the Cokro TV YouTube channel, and the excerpt uploaded by Permadi on his Facebook account.

Furthermore, Nurlette emphasised that the report he filed does not represent Jusuf Kalla, but is an initiative of APAM.

“It is not from Mr. Jusuf Kalla; we saw the mens rea in the edited video excerpt, which prompted us to file the report,” he said.

Previously, JK stated that what he conveyed in the sermon at UGM was not blasphemy against religion. He noted that the sermon at UGM took place during this year’s Ramadan and he was invited to deliver it on the theme of peace.

“The event at UGM was a Ramadan sermon, like those held everywhere in mosques. I was invited and attended because the theme was peace. Specifically, the theme was steps towards peace,” JK said at his residence in South Jakarta on Saturday (18/4).

JK explained that he discussed what peace and conflict entail. He also addressed conflicts in the world and in Indonesia. He then touched on the conflicts in Poso and Ambon.

He said that at the time, the conflicts in those two regions were protracted, and no one could mediate. JK decided to intervene in resolving the conflicts.

JK mentioned that the conflicts in those two regions occurred because the communities thought they were fighting for religion. There was a belief among the people there that anyone who died would be considered a martyr or shahid.

He used the term shahid because he was in a mosque.

“They thought it was a religious war. Whoever dies will be a shahid for Islam. Christians call it martyr. But I was in the mosque and didn’t understand martyr. What I said was that they are almost the same, shahid and martyr are similar. The only difference is the way,” JK said.

“If it’s shahid, they are all the same, dying for defending the religion. That’s shahid. Martyr is the same, dying for defending the religion. So it’s just a matter of terminology,” he added.

He stressed that what he said was not about religious dogma and ideology. According to him, there is no teaching in either religion that calls for killing each other.

“I was not talking about religious dogma, I was not talking about religious ideology, no. About why they kill each other? Is there such a thing in Islam and Christianity? No. So they all violated religious teachings,” he said.
