Addition of Satpol PP Personnel Must Be Accompanied by Improvements to the Work System
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Kevin Wu, stated that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s plan to add Satpol PP personnel must be accompanied by improvements to the work system to make it humane.
“I see that this plan to add Satpol PP personnel is indeed urgent,” said Kevin Wu in Jakarta on Tuesday.
According to him, field facts show that the current number of Satpol PP personnel is not ideal, with only around 5,000 people, whereas the need could reach 10,000 personnel.
At the sub-district level, ideally Satpol PP personnel should number 18-20 people, but in reality, there are only 7-10 people.
“As a result, the workload becomes very heavy, even some members have to work up to 36 hours. This has serious impacts, with 35 members dying in a year,” he said.
The DKI Provincial Government’s plan to add Satpol PP personnel must indeed be carried out and is urgent. However, adding Satpol PP members must also be accompanied by improvements to the work system.
“As well as humane working hours, facilities, and health protection for members,” he said.
Regarding the fiscal burden, it must also be calculated carefully because adding thousands of personnel has long-term employee spending consequences, salaries, allowances, training, to infrastructure. Especially amid efficiency policies, DKI’s fiscal space is not unlimited.
Therefore, Kevin believes that this addition must be done gradually and based on real field needs, not all at once.
The government also needs to ensure efficiency on the other side, including optimising surveillance technology and organising the work system so that not everything depends on adding human resources.
“In essence, we support strengthening Satpol PP as the frontline for order, but it must be with a measured, sustainable approach, and not burdening the regional budget uncontrollably,” he said.
Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno approved the proposal to add personnel to the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) of DKI, which is currently still not ideal.
“Imagine, even firefighters need 11,000 personnel. If Satpol PP asks for 5,000, it might be possible, but it will be gradual,” said Rano in Jakarta on Saturday (25/4).
Responding to the 35 Satpol PP members who died in a year, Rano said this also needs attention.
For that, he assessed that adding Satpol PP personnel is necessary because the current number is still not ideal, so the workload becomes quite heavy and impacts health conditions.
