Adaro 'best coal company'

JAKARTA (JP): Coal mining company PT Adaro Indonesia in South Kalimantan was named on Monday the "Best Coal Company in 1999" at the prestigious Financial Times Energy Awards in New York.

The company said in a statement it won the award thanks to its efficient operation, innovative marketing, commitment to environmental and social responsibilities, particularly community development.

Adaro produces clean sub-bituminous coal internationally known as Envirocoal.

It has planned to produce 14.2 million tons this year, up from 11.24 million tons last year.

The company is owned by New Hope Corporation (50 percent), Edison Mission Energy (10 percent) and PT Asminco Bara Utama (40 percent), a subsidiary of the Swabhara Group. (jsk)
