Professor of Law at Al Azhar Indonesia University, Suparji Ahmad, has expressed appreciation for the increase in allowances for ad hoc judges through Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 5 of 2026 on the Financial Rights and Facilities of Ad Hoc Judges.

He hopes that the allowance increase will be accompanied by the safeguarding of ad hoc judges’ morality, preventing them from being ensnared by political forces.

“Morality must be maintained, not pawned or ensnared by political, economic, legal, and social powers,” Suparji told Kompas.com on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

With the presence of the allowances and facilities regulated in Perpres 5/2026, he hopes there will be no more ad hoc judges who abuse their authority.

“(It is hoped) there will be no more judges entangled in cases due to alleged interactions in case handling,” Suparji said.

He also expressed appreciation to President Prabowo Subianto for issuing the Perpres on ad hoc judges’ allowances.

“Appreciation to the President for realising his commitment. It is hoped that the salary increase will enhance the professionalism of judges in carrying out their duties and authority,” Suparji said.

“The amount of the allowance for ad hoc judges in each court as stated in the Attachment already includes income tax,” states Article 4 paragraph (1) of Perpres 5/2026, downloaded from the JDIH of the Ministry of Manpower (Kemenaker).

In the Attachment to Perpres 5/2026, ad hoc judges in first-instance corruption courts, first-instance industrial relations courts, first-instance fisheries courts, first-instance human rights courts, and first-instance commerce courts receive an allowance of Rp 49,300,000.

In addition to the allowance, ad hoc judges will also receive six other rights and facilities, such as housing, transportation, and health insurance.

“Ad hoc judges will be given financial rights and facilities consisting of: a. allowance; b. state housing; c. transportation facilities; d. health insurance; e. security guarantee and in carrying out their duties; f. official travel expenses, and; g. appreciation money,” states Article 2 of Perpres 5/2026.
