Jakarta — Metro Jaya Police have revealed new facts in the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS).

Police suspect the attack was carried out by four perpetrators who had been tailing the victim before the assault. Iman Imanuddin, Director of General Criminal Investigation at Metro Jaya Police, stated that the perpetrators used two motorcycles during their operation. They had apparently waited for the victim before following his movements.

“We believe four suspects using two motorcycles waited for the victim in front of KFC Cikini, then followed the victim’s movements towards Jalan Diponegoro and subsequently towards Jalan Salemba 1,” he said on Monday, 16 March 2026.

From the investigation, police discovered that the perpetrators had been moving since South Jakarta before eventually gathering in the Jalan Merdeka Timur area, near Gambir Station. They then traversed several roads in central Jakarta, including Jalan Ir H Juanda, Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, and the Tugu Tani area before heading towards Cikini.

Police suspect the perpetrators began tailing the victim after Andrie Yunus finished an activity at the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) office. At that time, the victim stopped to refuel at a petrol station in Cikini before continuing his journey home.

Around 23:32 to 23:35 WIB, the perpetrators were seen in the petrol station area and waited for the right moment to carry out their attack.

The acid attack on Andrie Yunus occurred on Thursday evening, 12 March 2026, at approximately 23:37 WIB on Jalan Salemba I, Central Jakarta.

“That is where the incident occurred and we obtained CCTV footage with sufficiently clear images, which greatly assists the investigation and prosecution process,” he said.

To solve the case, police formed a joint team involving investigators from Metro Jakarta Central Police, Metro Jaya Police, and the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Body.

During the investigation process, the team has collected and analysed dozens of surveillance camera recordings from various points across Jakarta.

“From 86 surveillance camera points that we analysed, there are 2,610 video recordings with a total duration of approximately 10,320 minutes,” he said.
