Acehnese Migrant Worker and Newborn Baby Allegedly Murdered in Malaysia
A 22-year-old Indonesian Migrant Worker (PMI) from Gampong Alur Manis, Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh, named Putri Hensy Aprilda, and her newborn baby, just a few days old, have reportedly died and are suspected to be victims of murder in Sepang, Selangor, Malaysia. The suspect is believed to be a Malaysian woman, according to information received from the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Kuala Lumpur. Haji Uma, a member of the Indonesian Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) from Aceh, stated that details of the case were obtained from the Police Attaché at KBRI Kuala Lumpur and the Aceh Bersatu Joint Team (GAB) in Malaysia, who are currently searching for the victim’s family based on identification results from the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) Identification Centre (Pusident). Following up on the information, he coordinated with the Aceh Tamiang Regency Government to trace the family of the victim, who was allegedly murdered on 3 June 2026 in the Sepang area of Selangor. The victim’s baby was found by local residents and taken to Klang Hospital, but had already passed away. The infant’s body is currently at Shah Alam Hospital. The perpetrator was apprehended on 19 June 2026 and is undergoing legal proceedings under applicable Malaysian law. Initial investigations point to a suspected motive of debt. The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) reportedly has strong evidence related to the crime. If found guilty, the perpetrator could face the maximum penalty under Malaysian law, which is the death penalty or life imprisonment. KBRI Kuala Lumpur will continue to oversee the investigation process by the PDRM and coordinate the handling of the victims’ remains. Haji Uma has assigned the GAB Malaysia Team to assist with the repatriation of Putri Hensy’s body, which is at Serdang Hospital in Selangor, and her baby’s body at Shah Alam Hospital. The team in Malaysia has been asked to accompany the entire process of handling the remains until repatriation to their hometown, with ongoing coordination with KBRI Kuala Lumpur to ensure the process runs smoothly. Haji Uma expressed appreciation to KBRI Kuala Lumpur and the Police Attaché for their cooperation and swift response. The estimated cost of repatriating the bodies is around Rp36 million. He has coordinated with the Regent of Aceh Tamiang, Armia Fahmi, local community leaders (datok), and opened donations through the Aceh Bersatu Group and Aceh Meutuah Group in Malaysia to assist with the repatriation process. Putri Hensy was an orphan who had been living with her grandmother in modest economic circumstances and had worked in Malaysia for approximately three years.
