Aceh Tamiang disaster survivors to clear farmland after Eid al-Fitr
A resident of Sekumur Village, Aceh Tamiang, Muktar Sulaiman, stated that his farmland had been completely destroyed, and whilst he has not yet inspected it further, he plans to return after Eid al-Fitr for cleanup operations.
Muktar reported that his approximately three-hectare plantation, which previously produced fruits such as durian and duku as well as palm oil, had been damaged by flooding. The November 26, 2026 flood disaster swept away all his harvest, leaving only flood-damaged timber behind.
Consequently, he intends to clear the land that sustains his household’s livelihood following the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
Similarly, Khairi Ramadhan, Head of Babo Village, which is adjacent to Sekumur Village, conveyed that his villagers would refocus on farming activities after celebrating Eid al-Fitr.
Currently, most villagers rely on assistance from both government and private sector sources to meet their daily needs. Many residents have temporarily switched occupations, working as timber labourers, as their previous palm oil plantation workplaces were destroyed by the flooding.
He explained that whilst clearing flood-damaged land requires considerable time, such efforts will be pursued more intensively following the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
“Residents will certainly return to farming as it remains their primary source of livelihood,” he said.
