Accusing Iran of Breaching Ceasefire, Trump Sends Negotiation Delegation to Pakistan
US President Donald Trump stated that US representatives will travel to Islamabad, Pakistan, to negotiate with Iran. Trump’s statement came while accusing Tehran of breaching the ceasefire agreement in the Strait of Hormuz.
“Iran decided to fire bullets yesterday in the Strait of Hormuz—a total violation of our ceasefire agreement! Many of them were aimed at French ships and British cargo vessels. That’s not pleasant, is it? My representatives will go to Islamabad, Pakistan—they will be there tomorrow night for negotiations,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social, as reported by CNN on Sunday (19/4/2026).
In an interview with the New York Post, Trump said special envoy Steve Witkoff will go to Pakistan and that his son-in-law Jared Kushner will also be involved.
Trump also claimed on social media that Iran’s actions around the strategic waterway are counterproductive, adding, “Iran recently announced that they are closing the strait, which is strange because our blockade has already closed it. They are helping us without realising it, and they are the ones who suffer from the closure of that route, $500 million per day! The United States loses nothing.”
He added that shipping patterns have shifted as a result. “In fact, many ships are now heading to the US, Texas, Louisiana, and Alaska, to load cargo, thanks to the IRGC, who always want to be the ‘big shot!’”
Trump said the US has proposed what he described as a “very fair and reasonable deal,” while issuing a stark warning if negotiations fail.
“We are offering a very fair and reasonable deal, and I hope they accept it because, if not, the United States will destroy every power plant and every bridge in Iran. No more Mr Nice Guy!” Trump said.
“They will come down quickly, they will come down easily and, if they do not accept that deal, it will be an honour for me to do what must be done, which should have been done to Iran by other presidents over the last 47 years. It’s time for the Iranian killing machine to end!” he added.
