Indonesia’s fifth president and PDIP general chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri received the Qatari Ambassador to Indonesia, Sultan bin Mubarak Al-Dosari. Megawati was accompanied by her son, PDIP Deputy Chairman Prananda Prabowo.

The meeting took place at Megawati’s residence in Menteng, Jakarta, on Monday (13/4/2026). In addition to Prananda, PDIP Deputy Chairman Ahmad Basarah and PDIP Policy Research and Analysis Agency Head Andi Widjajanto were also present.

Megawati introduced Prananda to the Qatari Ambassador before beginning the dialogue.

“This is my son,” said Megawati with a smile.

The meeting lasted for two hours. It concluded with an exchange of gifts. Megawati presented a miniature of Borobudur Temple and a pinisi boat, which is a traditional wooden sailing ship characteristic of Indonesia, particularly from the Bugis people of Makassar.

“This is a pinisi ship, typical of Indonesia,” said Megawati.

Meanwhile, the Qatari Ambassador gave a collection of flowers and a book titled ‘Qatar, Between Land and Sea, Through Arts and Heritage’. The book is a documentation that narrates Qatar’s cultural richness, history, and arts, focusing on the close relationship of its people with the desert (land) and the sea.

“I am pleased to meet and dialogue directly with Mrs Megawati. I am impressed with the painting collection here,” said the Qatari Ambassador while pointing to Megawati’s painting.

The Qatari Ambassador stated that Indonesia’s first president Sukarno, who is also Megawati’s father, is very well-known in the Middle East. He said that the Emir of Qatar has studied much of Indonesia’s history.

“The Qatari Ambassador said that the names of Mrs Megawati and President Sukarno are popular in Qatar because the Emir’s wife and the Emir’s sister are historians who have studied Indonesian history extensively,” said Ahmad Basarah after the meeting.

Meanwhile, Basarah said that Megawati is the first national figure visited by the Qatari Ambassador besides President Prabowo Subianto. Basarah said the Qatari Ambassador also invited Megawati to visit Qatar.

“In the meeting, the Qatari Ambassador invited Mrs Megawati to dine at the ambassador’s residence. Additionally, he invited Mrs Megawati to come to Qatar,” said Basarah.

Basarah said the Qatari Ambassador admired the content of Megawati’s speech when receiving an honorary doctorate from Princess Nourah University (PNU) in Riyadh last February.

The Qatari Ambassador said that the Qatari government aligns with Megawati’s thoughts on women’s equality, as a Middle Eastern country that has appointed women as ministers.
