The post-disaster recovery process following hydrometeorological events in Aceh, North Sumatra (Sumut), and West Sumatra (Sumbar) is steadily moving towards a more permanent phase. The government is now focusing on accelerating the construction of permanent housing (huntap) as a key priority for long-term rehabilitation and reconstruction. The construction of huntap is a crucial part of efforts to restore housing certainty for affected communities while ensuring the recovery process is sustainable. Through synergy coordinated by the Task Force for the Acceleration of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Satgas PRR) for the Sumatra Post-Disaster, huntap construction is being expedited across various affected regions. According to Satgas PRR data as of mid-June 2026, progress in huntap construction in the affected areas is evident. Out of a total plan for 39,217 huntap units in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, 1,091 units are currently under construction and 406 units have been completed. Aceh Province has the largest need for huntap, reaching 28,910 units. Of that number, 722 units are currently under construction and 157 have been completed. Meanwhile, in North Sumatra, out of a target of 7,483 units, 312 units are being built and 227 have been finished. In West Sumatra, construction of 57 huntap units is underway out of a total requirement of 2,824 units. This progress is beginning to be visible in several affected areas, including Pidie Jaya Regency. After the completion of temporary housing (huntara) and the utilisation of all available units, the local government is now focusing on completing the huntap construction phase for communities affected by flooding. The Head of the Pidie Jaya Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Okta Handipa, stated that the verification and updating of data for prospective huntap recipients is still ongoing to ensure construction aligns with the choices and needs of the community. According to Okta, some residents are still adjusting between the in-situ and communal huntap schemes, necessitating data validation before construction proceeds. “Huntap data is being re-verified. The community data actually already exists, but there are still residents who wish to switch from the in-situ scheme to the centralised (communal) one, or vice versa,” Okta explained in a written statement on Sunday (14/6/2026). Okta added that the data finalisation process has been completed and the local government is currently preparing the latest decree (SK) as the basis for submitting construction requests to the Satgas PRR. As part of the preparations, pilot huntap construction has been carried out in the districts of Meurah Dua, Meureudu, and Pantee Raja. These models serve as an initial step before larger-scale huntap construction is realised. The Satgas PRR also continues to oversee the acceleration of huntap construction together with all stakeholders to ensure the rehabilitation and reconstruction process proceeds according to plan.
