Jakarta – The Ministry of Public Works and Housing (KemenPU) is accelerating repairs to national roads on the Northern Coastal Route (Pantura) and tollway sections ahead of the Eid holiday exodus in 2026.

This initiative is being undertaken to ensure that public travel is safe and smooth during periods of increased mobility.

In the western Pantura region, repair efforts are focused on fixing potholes on national routes by the Major Implementation Agency for National Roads (BBPJN) of DKI–West Java. The acceleration is intended to ensure road conditions are ready to handle the surge in vehicle volumes during the mudik period.

“We reported approximately 7,000 potholes, which have now been drastically reduced to 2,500. We are ensuring that before the exodus period, by H-minus 10 days, all potholes will be eliminated,” stated Dody in remarks made on Sunday (1 March 2026).

For short-term repairs, work is being conducted using patching methods or rapid pothole filling to maintain traffic flow.

Meanwhile, medium-term repairs include overlaying and upgrading the road construction to rigid pavement or concrete at several vulnerable points to ensure optimal road durability.

Special attention is also being given to the Pemalang–Pekalongan section, which is a strategically important corridor on the Pantura route. This route is known for high vehicle volumes, particularly for logistics transport and public transportation.

Preservation work on this section includes repairs to road pavement structure on several priority segments.

By the end of February 2026, physical progress had reached 78.89 per cent, exceeding the planned target of 37.66 per cent.
