Bojonegoro, East Java - An academic from Universitas Bojonegoro (Unigoro), Musta’ana, stated that Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection, or PP Tunas, represents the government’s commitment to the future of Indonesian children. Musta’ana, a lecturer in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisip) at Unigoro, said that to implement the regulation more effectively and efficiently, cross-sectoral involvement is necessary. “The government needs to carry out cross-sectoral collaboration in implementing the PP Tunas regulation to make it effective and efficient,” he said in Bojonegoro, East Java, on Friday. He explained that this cross-sectoral collaboration should involve relevant ministries, law enforcement, the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), non-governmental organisations (NGOs) focused on children, and social media platforms. Through this cross-sectoral collaboration, it is hoped that the regulation can be implemented consistently and firmly. In addition, he continued, the government can impose sanctions on platforms that have not implemented the rules and encourage content creators to produce more educational and innovative content. “The government can also establish child-friendly digital homes or other programmes that can support children’s development and improve their quality of life,” he said. Ana explained that the implementation of PP Tunas will have positive impacts on children, such as protection from crime risks and avoidance of access to adult content. PP Tunas also strictly filters content that can have positive effects on children’s psychological conditions and mental health, as well as social impacts that encourage children to interact with real life rather than the virtual world. “The implementation of PP Tunas as a strong juridical instrument requires transparent technical rules and massive strengthening of the digital literacy ecosystem so that it does not become just a regulation on paper,” he said. He hopes that PP Tunas can help the community, especially parents, in limiting access to negative, uneducational social media that is not yet suitable for children.
