Universitas Indonesia (UI) has suspended the academic status of 16 students from the UI Faculty of Law who are suspects in a sexual violence case. The suspension of student status lasts from 15 April to 30 May 2026.

UI’s Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Affairs, Erwin Agustian Panigoro, stated that the sanction was issued based on recommendations from the UI Task Force on Prevention and Handling of Violence.

“This recommendation is part of follow-up steps to ensure the examination process runs optimally, objectively, and fairly,” Erwin said in a written statement received on Wednesday evening, 15 April 2026.

During the deactivation period, the suspected perpetrators are not permitted to participate in all educational activities and teaching and learning processes, including lectures, academic guidance, or other activities related to academic pursuits.

“This policy is a preventive administrative step taken to maintain the integrity of the examination process and protect all parties involved,” he said.

Additionally, they are not allowed to be on campus premises, except for examination purposes by the Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force or for urgent and non-postponable matters, under university supervision.

The university also imposes restrictions on the suspects’ involvement in student organisation activities. Intensive supervision is conducted to prevent direct or indirect interactions with victims or witnesses during the examination process.

“This step is taken as part of the university’s commitment to ensure the examination process runs objectively, protects all involved parties, and maintains a conducive academic environment,” Erwin stated.
