JAKARTA (JP): Fans of abstract painting are in for a treat at
an exhibition by noted painter Machzum Siregar at the Ambara
Hotel in Blok M.
The exhibit was opened Monday evening by Rennie Singgih, wife
of the Attorney General, and will last through Thursday.
A former wrestler in the 1958-1960 Asian Games, Machzum taught
himself abstract painting.
Machzum considers the bold color he uses to cover his canvases
his trademark.
"To me abstract painting poses a great challenge as it
requires dexterity to combine bold colors," Machzum was quoted by
Antara as saying.
Machzum's prices his paintings from Rp 4 million to Rp 40
million. He says he is confident that Indonesians will soon start
to appreciate abstract painting.
The painter has held many exhibits in and out of the country.
