Abolishing discrimination
Abolishing discrimination
From Bisnis Indonesia
A Jakarta-based daily reported that the director of public
administration said that Indonesian citizenship certificates for
ethnic Chinese (SBKRI) are not required in civil affairs.
This may be true in regards routine activities, but when it
comes to administrative processes for passports at immigration
offices, the SBKRI is certainly required -- along with birth
certificates, name change documents (if any) and K1 cards that
certify Jakarta residence.
We have no idea how much longer this will continue.
Legal consultants should explain which public institution
actually holds authority to abolish this law: the president,
justice minister, the Supreme Court or the House of
Representatives?
In the United States, any discriminative treatment is liable
to legal action. Even without imitating this, the elimination of
this outdated requirement would make us extremely grateful.
