Abdullah Puteh's case

We should be positive about the Aceh martial law
administration's questioning of Governor Abdullah Puteh for his
alleged involvement in a Rp 30 billion corruption case. And we
hope the province's civilian authority will agree to the
questioning.

Why? Because leaders should be models of accountability. If
they are not guilty, they need not worry.

Fighting corruption is the mandate of reform. Corruption has
become a deadly disease, proven to have damaged the country.

Thus, we should support the questioning of public officials
over alleged corruption.

We should see Puteh's questioning as an effort to uphold the
law so the government can function and serve the people well.

The governor should also take the questioning positively.

His questioning, meanwhile, should gain the people's trust and
show them the law is not only for the common people but for the
powerful as well.

Puteh should not ask for protection from House of
Representatives Speaker Akbar Tandjung, as this will work against
him. It might even give the impression he is guilty. -- Media
