Food security has become the most critical issue in regional development across many areas. To address this, Abah Iwan Suryawan, head of the PKS party’s West Java provincial leadership, is urging every city and district in West Java to establish food centres as an effort to strengthen regional food self-sufficiency.

This call was made during his address at a Coordination Meeting on the Farmers, Livestock, and Fisheries Sector of the PKS West Java provincial leadership held in Bandung on Saturday, 28 February.

According to Abah Iwan, developing food centres represents a strategic step to strengthen the agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sectors whilst simultaneously improving community welfare. “Together with our colleagues, we wish to build a major initiative. This is a vision we have long held—to establish food centres in every city and district,” stated the Deputy Chair of the West Java Regional House of Representatives.

He emphasised that West Java’s potential in the food sector is considerable and requires deliberate management through collaboration among various stakeholders, including farmers’ communities, livestock raisers, and fishers.

Abah Iwan also praised the role of the Farmers, Livestock, and Fisheries Sector division of the PKS West Java leadership for actively fostering enthusiasm and productive activities in the community’s food sector. He noted that Budiwanto, the head of this division, has set a concrete example through direct involvement in advancing agriculture, livestock, and fisheries among the population.

“His presence in this field has reignited the spirit of farming, livestock-rearing, fishing, and seafaring communities, which possess considerable potential for continued development in West Java,” he affirmed.

Through strengthening food centres at the regional level, a sustainable food-based economic ecosystem is expected to emerge, simultaneously reinforcing food security across West Java.
