A question of consistency

As a recent arrival in Jakarta I would like to make a comment about the coverage of international sporting events by The Jakarta Post. Having been in the city for more than one month now (and as an occasional visitor to Jakarta in the past) I have subscribed to your fine newspaper and I am an avid reader.

Whilst I believe the general standard of reporting and news coverage is impressive, throughout the majority of the paper, the sports coverage is somewhat lacking.

Being mindful that The Jakarta Post is the most widely read journal among expatriates (English speaking) in Jakarta, I believe the paper does not adequately cover worldwide sporting events.

The paper certainly gives an extremely strong coverage to golf, tennis, cricket tests, rugby tests and major sporting events, such as the recent World Athletics Championships from Greece.

However, the coverage of weekly sports, of interest to expatriates from throughout the globe, is not consistently covered. Sometimes result of events are given part-way through the competition but not the final result. A recent example was the cricket test between Sri Lanka and India.

I believe expatriates would be very happy to read the final results alone in a classified form. A story does not necessarily have to accompany a result.

The following are the world sporting events:

- United States: NBA Basketball, baseball, American football. It seems that The Jakarta Post covers American sport fairly well at the present moment.

- Canada: NHL Ice Hockey

- Australia: Australian Rugby League, Australian Rules Football.

- New Zealand: Rugby Super 12's.

I believe, with the consistent and ongoing addition of these sports every week, The Jakarta Post will reinforce its position in Jakarta's expatriate community.
