The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) is preparing to receive a number of new primary weapons systems. Several vessels from abroad will soon arrive in Indonesian waters. On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, the Ministry of Defense together with the TNI attended a working meeting with Commission I of the House of Representatives. The closed meeting was held to discuss the granting of defense and security equipment. One of the topics disclosed involved an agreement between the government and the House on accepting a grant worth 1.9 billion yen, or approximately Rp 205 billion, in the form of patrol boats. “In terms of vessels, that amount would translate to roughly 3 or 4 patrol boats measuring 14 meters in length, 5 meters in width, with speeds of up to 40 knots,” said Deputy Minister of Defense Donny Ermawan Taufanto. In addition to patrol boats from the Japanese government, Indonesia will be adding new vessels. Here is the list.

1. Indonesian Warship Canopus-936

The Indonesian Navy received the warship KRI Canopus-936 in a handover ceremony held at the Abeking & Rasmussen shipyard in Germany on Thursday, February 12, 2026. The vessel is part of the Ministry of Defense’s ship procurement project. The handover ceremony was led by Deputy Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Erwin S. Aldedharma. The series of events included ship naming, delivery, commissioning, and the inauguration of the ship’s commanding officer. “This ship will strengthen the forces of the Pushidrosal Operational Command in carrying out core hydro-oceanographic survey operations and supporting search and rescue as well as maritime security patrols,” said Erwin in a press release, quoted on Saturday, February 14, 2026. The vessel will be commanded by Navy Colonel (Navigation) Indragiri Yani Wardhono. Construction of the ship took three years, and it is crewed by 93 personnel. KRI Canopus-936 is an ocean-going Hydro-Oceanographic Auxiliary Ship (BHO). A BHO is a naval auxiliary vessel tasked with conducting hydrographic and oceanographic surveys, including sea mapping, depth measurement, currents, tides, and seabed characteristics to support navigational safety and military operations. It is also equipped with a range of unmanned system technologies, including an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV) ZBoat, as well as an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Drone with Lidar and Multibeam Echosounder. The ship is also armed with a 20-millimeter cannon and a 12.7-millimeter machine gun.

2. KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321

The warship Prabu Siliwangi-321 officially began its voyage to Indonesia after departing from Base Navale della Spezia, Italy, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. The departure of the Italian-built vessel is part of efforts to strengthen the naval branch’s primary weapons systems. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali estimated the ship would arrive in Indonesia in early April. KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 is under the command of Navy Colonel (Navigation) Kurniawan Koes Atmadja. Upon arrival in Indonesia, KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 is planned to join its sister ship, KRI Brawijaya-320, under Fleet Command II. The ship’s presence is expected to bolster the Navy’s combat capabilities in safeguarding sovereignty and national interests in Indonesian waters.

3. Aircraft Carrier Garibaldi

The Indonesian Navy will receive the Giuseppe Garibaldi as a grant from the Italian government. This will become the first aircraft carrier owned by Indonesia. The 180.2-meter-long carrier has a top speed of 30 knots, or approximately 56 kilometers per hour. The ship is equipped with an octuple Mk.29 launcher for Sea Sparrow/Selenia Aspide anti-aircraft missiles, twin Oto Melara 40L70 DARDO guns, triple 324-millimeter torpedo tubes, and Otomat Mk 2 SSM anti-ship missiles. The Navy is currently preparing a crew unit for the Garibaldi aircraft carrier. Head of the Defense Information Bureau at the Ministry of Defense’s Secretariat General, Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, said the ship’s arrival schedule is still under discussion. The vessel is currently undergoing technical readiness stages before it can sail to Indonesia, including the dismantling of certain equipment by the Italian Navy. Rico said the aircraft carrier can in principle support the Navy’s duties in both Military Operations for War and Military Operations Other Than War. “Including humanitarian missions and disaster relief. However, the crew unit and ship assignments are still being finalized by the Navy,” Rico said when contacted on Saturday, February 14, 2026.
