A Lifeline for Sumatra Residents, KA Rajabasa Transports 53,000 Passengers During Eid Holiday
As many as 53,720 passengers used the Rajabasa Train (KA) service during the 2026 Eid holiday. KA Rajabasa is a subsidised economy-class train serving the route from Tanjungkarang (Bandar Lampung) to Kertapati (Palembang) and vice versa. During the 2026 Eid holiday season, this train became a mainstay for the people of Lampung and South Sumatra, offering inter-regional travel at affordable fares and with adequate capacity. With fares ranging from Rp29,000 to Rp32,000, the public can enjoy long-distance journeys at a reasonable cost. “The high customer interest shows that this train has become a reliable option for inter-city travel with affordable fares, adequate capacity, and services that are continuously maintained to remain safe and comfortable during the Eid transportation period,” said Vice President of Corporate Communication at PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), Anne Purba, in an official statement on Friday (20/3/2026). Due to the high customer interest, the Tanjungkarang–Kertapati route was even recorded as one of the favourite long-distance trains, entering the national top 10. This achievement positions KA Rajabasa as the only train in Sumatra to make it onto that list. Public enthusiasm was also evident from ticket booking figures. As of 20 March 2026 at 10:30 WIB, ticket sales for KA Rajabasa (S7) on the Kertapati–Tanjungkarang route reached 26,481 customers. Anne added that these sales figures indicate that KA Rajabasa has become the primary choice for the public for inter-provincial travel in southern Sumatra during the Eid homecoming season. As travel needs increase ahead of Eid, this train provides an efficient, safe, comfortable, and still affordable mass transportation solution for people travelling between Bandar Lampung and Palembang. To support this high mobility, KA Rajabasa operations are currently supported by eight train sets. This service strengthens inter-city connectivity, expands travel access, and helps serve large numbers of passengers during the homecoming and return flow periods. “For the people of southern Sumatra, KA Rajabasa is a service closely tied to daily travel needs. During Eid, its role becomes even more pronounced as an affordable transportation option,” she concluded.
