MT Pagerungan and MT Pangkalan Brandan stand as proof of the national maritime industry’s capability to produce high-quality tanker ships to support energy distribution in Indonesia. Both ships were built by PT PAL Indonesia and have been operational since 2015 as part of the Pertamina Patra Niaga fleet. They are sister ships of the general-purpose tanker type with a capacity of 17,500 LTDW, with a carrying capacity of around 25,528 kilolitres or more than 25 million litres of fuel oil per voyage. These 157.2 metres long and 27.7 metres wide ships are designed to operate in various domestic ports as well as international shipping routes. With such large capacity, MT Pagerungan and MT Pangkalan Brandan become important elements in the national energy distribution chain. In one trip, each ship can carry supplies equivalent to thousands of land tanker trucks, thus enabling more efficient fuel distribution to island regions. MT Pagerungan serves domestic inter-island distribution, while MT Pangkalan Brandan operates on international routes such as Singapore and Malaysia. The synergy between the two strengthens the national energy supply, while also reflecting Indonesia’s independence in building a modern tanker fleet.
