The impact of the heavy rain that has hit Denpasar for several days is still visible on Jalan Bumiayu, Sanur, where floodwaters remained on Thursday (February 26, 2026). However, the water levels are starting to recede. One of those affected is Amil, a Danish citizen who has lived in Sanur for six years.

Fortunately, Amil’s house is located on higher ground, so the water did not enter. However, he still has to wade through the floodwaters when leaving the house.

“The house is safe, the water didn’t enter. My house is a little higher on that side street. But some neighbors had to evacuate,” Amil said when interviewed by detikBali while walking through the floodwaters on Thursday.

Amil said he did not experience any major difficulties, other than some minor leaks in the house. “I eat at home, so I don’t have to go anywhere, but many neighbors had to leave because their houses are lower,” he explained.

Amil has been aware that Jalan Bumiayu is often flooded. This is one of the reasons why he chose to settle in Sanur and build a new house on higher ground.

According to him, the flooding in the Bumiayu area has worsened since the road and drainage system were improved. “The water can’t drain. Before, the flood would recede after an hour, now it takes three days. The drainage system has a maximum capacity, and the water can’t get out,” he said.

“Everyone is facing the same situation, they are having difficulty with it. Now it’s worse, people have to evacuate, it’s a little more dangerous,” he added.

Flooding Boosts Business for Laundry Shop

Meanwhile, the flooding on Jalan Bumiayu, Sanur, has increased the number of orders at local laundry shops, including Savira Express Laundry. Many of the customers are tourists staying in nearby hotels or villas.

“There are guests staying at Ne Villa, and all their clothes are being washed here because of the flood. Their clothes and shoes are all wet. That’s the good thing about it,” said Suryani, the owner of the laundry shop, in an interview with detikBali.

Although sales have increased, the flooding still makes it difficult for Suryani to leave the house. Each time she leaves, she and her family stock up on food for three days in anticipation.

“The tourists are being evacuated. I’m not moving. Because I have a business here,” she said.

She said she has not experienced any problems in running her business. The water remains clean, and the electricity is working well. In addition, her house is located on higher ground, so it is not affected by the flood.

As of this afternoon, the floodwaters on Jalan Bumiayu have begun to recede. Three fire trucks from the Denpasar City Fire Department, with nine personnel, have been deployed to pump out the water in the area.

“We have to pump out the water first, we collect it, and then we discharge it into the river,” said the Head of the Denpasar City Fire and Rescue Department, I Made Tariana, in an interview with detikBali on Thursday (February 26, 2026).

The Denpasar City Fire Department is using two shifts, morning and evening, to pump out the water. From yesterday to this morning, the Denpasar City Fire Department has pumped out water 12 times on Jalan Bumiayu. Ten times on Wednesday (February 25, 2026) and two times on Thursday morning.

“The capacity of the water trucks varies, there are two with 5,000 liters, one with 3,000 liters, and one with 12,000 liters. One is being repaired, so we sent three,” Tariana added.

According to a report by the Denpasar City Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), there have been 100 reports of disasters from residents of Denpasar. These include one report of a landslide on Jalan Seroja Gang Nanas, five reports of fallen trees (Jalan Sekar Sari, Tunjung Sari, Cempaka Biru, Gatot Subroto, Tantular Barat), and the rest are reports of flooding. These include areas of Sanur, Sidakarya, Pemogan, Sesetan, Pedungan, Panjer, Renon, Dauh Puri, and several other locations.
