99% of SNBT Cheating Cases Target Medical Faculties
Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek), Brian Yuliarto, stated that cheating in the National Selection Based on Test (SNBT) for university admissions predominantly targets medical faculties.
“Essentially, nearly 99% of cheating cases involve medical faculties. We are conducting detailed identification and implementing measures to prevent this,” he said during a press conference on SNBT results and KIP Kuliah recipients at the Kemdiktisaintek office on Monday (25 May).
At the same event, SNPMB Chief Executive Eduart Wolok confirmed similar data from last year’s SNBT. This year, applicants for medicine and dentistry will sit exams on the first two days.
“99.9% of those choosing medical programmes were involved in cheating last year, with almost 100% of fraud cases targeting medical faculties. Hence, this year’s UTBK schedule places medicine and dentistry applicants on the first two days,” Wolok said.
SNBT 2026 saw 871,496 applicants, up from 860,976 in 2025 and 785,058 in 2024. Increases were seen across all school types, with 597,849 from SMA, 141,330 from SMK, and 126,505 from MA.
“Public interest in SNBT continues to rise, reflecting Indonesian youth’s drive for higher education, which is positive for preparing talent for Golden Indonesia 2045,” Brian said.
The ministry praised SNPMB committees, universities, question setters, technicians, and all involved in SNBT. He added that the national selection process is a gateway for youth to pursue higher education and build a better future.
Kemdiktisaintek also affirmed its commitment to expanding access through the KIP Kuliah scholarship programme. This year, 251,991 KIP Kuliah applicants were processed, with 86,118 accepted – 33.59% of total successful candidates.
Brian explained that KIP Kuliah disbursements now follow Presidential Instruction on the National Single Social and Economic Data (DTSEN), ensuring targeted assistance for those in genuine need.
Beyond increased access and applicant numbers, Kemdiktisaintek has strengthened monitoring and fraud prevention for UTBK-SNBT 2026. Wolok detailed security measures including metal detectors, facial recognition, AI-based answer anomaly detection, and randomised scheduling and locations.
Brian stressed integrity as the foundation of national selection. “Education is about preparing the future; we will not tolerate any integrity breaches in this process,” he said.
Through SNBT 2026, Kemdiktisaintek remains committed to an inclusive, credible, and fair higher education selection system, expanding quality access for all Indonesian students.
