97% of public fuel stations in disaster-affected Aceh–Sumatra region are now operational
The Task Force for Accelerated Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Post-Disaster Sumatra has reported the latest operational status of Public Fuel Stations (SPBU) and Bulk LPG Filling Stations (SPBE) in Aceh, North Sumatra (Sumut) and West Sumatra (Sumbar). Based on PRR data as of 4 March, nearly all SPBU and SPBE in disaster-affected areas are operational to support supply of petroleum products and liquefied petroleum gas for disaster survivors in Sumatra.
Of 156 affected SPBU, 151 have operated or 97%. Five SPBU have not yet operated due to road access constraints.
To boost supply of fuel, eight alternative SPBU have been identified, mostly spread across Aceh Tengah. In addition, of 11 affected SPBE, all have resumed operation (100%). And 131 LPG agents have been operating.
However, PRR continues to face supply challenges because access from Lhokseumawe to Aceh Utara, Bireun, Bener Meriah, Aceh Tengah, Pidie Kuta Belang and Meureudu has not yet returned to normal, as some routes are still under repair.
In North Sumatra (Sumut), all of the 406 affected SPBU are fully functioning (100%). Also, among the 46 affected SPBE, all are operating at 100%, and 383 affected LPG agents are also operating at 100%.
Yet, supply is not yet fully stable because some road links remain severed, such as Humbang Hasundutan.
In West Sumatra (Sumbar), all 147 affected SPBU are fully operational (100%). Of the 14 affected SPBE, all are functioning (100%), and 172 LPG agents are also operating at 100%.
However, fuel and LPG supplies passing through Lembah Anai and Malalak cannot yet be routed; routings have been redirected via Sitinjau Lauik.
Earlier, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, Head of the PRR Post-Disaster Task Force for the Sumatra region, said that fuel and LPG supplies, as well as electricity, are fundamental needs that should be included in the recovery indicators for disaster survivors in Sumatra.
‘Among the recovery indicators are essential items such as electricity, and fuel, whether BBM or LPG, as well as communications and the internet,’ Tito said in a written statement on Wednesday (4 March 2026).
The statement was delivered at the PRR Post-Disaster Sumatra regional press conference at the Sasana Bhakti Praja Building, the Central Office of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), Jakarta.
