816,000 Lebanese people displaced due to Israeli attacks
Beirut — Lebanon’s Social Affairs Minister Haneen Sayed announced at a press conference on Wednesday, 11 March, that 816,000 people have been displaced as a result of Israeli attacks.
Sayed stated that 816,000 refugees have registered on the ministry’s assistance platform. Of this total, approximately 126,000 people are currently housed in 589 designated shelter centres located throughout the country.
Sayed added that the government is working in the field to guide refugee families to available centres and arrange transportation to ensure they reach safe locations.
At the same conference, Lebanon’s Health Minister Rakan Nasreddine reported that the death toll from the ongoing Israeli attacks has risen to 634 people, including 91 children and 47 women, whilst 1,586 others have been injured.
According to Nasreddine, the ongoing hostilities have also had a serious impact on the health sector. He reported 22 attacks against medical facilities and services, including incidents targeting Red Crescent ambulances.
The minister added that 15 healthcare workers have been killed and 45 others injured since the escalation began.
On 2 March, Hezbollah announced the launch of rockets from Lebanon towards Israel for the first time since a ceasefire was announced on 27 November 2024.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military has launched what it describes as an “offensive military campaign” against Hezbollah, conducting intensive airstrikes across various regions of Lebanon and ground operations at the border.
