The Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Satgas PRR) Post-Sumatra Disaster has deployed IPDN cadets in the third wave to Aceh Tamiang Regency since 30 March 2026. This assignment is a humanitarian mission to support recovery following the floods in Aceh province, which was significantly affected.

The selection of Aceh Tamiang Regency for this mission was made with careful consideration. The Head of Satgas PRR and Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, stated to Commission II that the regency experienced total paralysis due to the flash floods at the end of 2025. “Because it is the only regency/city government that is not functioning, as all its offices are submerged in mud,” he said at the Parliamentary Complex on 30 March 2026.

In this third wave, 733 IPDN cadets have been deployed to the location. They will serve for one month until 29 April 2026, focusing on cleaning public facilities such as roads, drainage, the royal tombs in Aceh Tamiang, and sports facilities to restore their functionality.

In addition, the cadets are also helping to clean residents’ homes in Kota Kuala Simpang Village and Kampung Bundar Village. The activities have been expanded to include additional targets in Kampung Dalam Village and Terban Village.

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Bima Arya Sugiarto, while leading the reception parade for the Satuan Praja Pratama (first-level cadets) in Aceh Tamiang, stated that this wave may be the last assignment. Therefore, he reminded the cadets to complete their service in Aceh Tamiang as best as possible without leaving any negative records.

Like a race, said Bima, the outcome is often determined not by what is started, but by how it is closed or ended. “Please always uphold the good name of our proud institution, IPDN, and the Ministry of Home Affairs,” he said on Thursday, 2 April 2026.

Thanks to the hard efforts of the previous two waves, conditions in Aceh Tamiang are now slowly improving, as seen from the normalisation of government activities and public services. For the third wave, the assignment no longer focuses on restoring government functions, but rather, according to Bima, requires direct involvement of the cadets in the community.

The first wave began on 5 January until 3 February 2026. During that period, 826 IPDN cadets were deployed to carry out early recovery by cleaning and restoring the functionality of 35 government buildings and 3 school buildings.

The second wave took place from 6 February to 3 March 2026, with 720 IPDN cadets assigned. In this wave, they focused on cleaning mud from public facilities and residents’ homes, while ensuring that government services are restored and operate effectively.

Overall, Satgas PRR has deployed a total of 2,279 IPDN cadets across the three waves. Since January, they have focused on cleaning mud residue from flood materials. Based on data as of 2 April 2026, in Aceh Tamiang, there are still 24 schools, 3 public facilities, and 8 offices that are targets for mud cleaning.

Satgas PRR was formed to ensure the presence of the state in helping flood-affected residents in Sumatra recover. These recovery efforts not only cover mud cleaning but also the construction of housing, health services, education, and fulfilment of other basic needs. The target of Satgas is to return the lives of flood-affected communities to normal conditions as before.
