Waste management in the The Nusa Dua area, Badung, has shown significant results. The amount of waste leaving the area has now been reduced to only around 5 per cent, as 70 per cent of the management is already carried out independently within the area. General Manager of The Nusa Dua, I Made Agus Dwiatmika, said the effort is done by processing waste into compost through an internal system and requiring tenants to manage their own waste. “So we process it on site, then turn it into compost and that can be used according to the needs of each tenant. We also ask tenants, including ITDC, to reduce waste production,” he said on Friday (17/4/2026). According to Agus, this step is able to reduce the amount of waste that must be handled by third parties to below 10-15 per cent. “That’s one way. So the amount processed by third parties that leaves can be reduced to below 15 or 10 per cent. We ourselves have managed to reduce it to 5 per cent,” he said. Agus stated that around 70 per cent of waste management in the The Nusa Dua area is already completed independently within the area. “You could say 70 per cent is already independent. Meaning independent in the sense that it’s handled within the area. Some, especially tenants with restaurants, still collaborate with third parties in the community,” he said. Nevertheless, there are still types of waste that must be removed from the area, such as hazardous waste (B3) and residual waste. In the future, waste management will continue to be optimised so that the amount of residual waste leaving the area becomes even smaller. “Now, the remainder is what we hope will get smaller, hopefully continuing to decline below 10 per cent,” he concluded.
