The ‘kultum’ – a seven-minute sermon – is a form of religious lecture delivered in a short period. Typically, it is given just before breaking the fast, before or after the Tarawih prayers, or after the Subuh prayer during Ramadan.

Quoting the Ministry of Religious Affairs website and NU Online, here are some examples of short Ramadan ‘kultum’ scripts.

  1. Better to do a little consistently

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

Ramadan, as a special month full of blessings and forgiveness, often becomes just a fleeting euphoria. At the beginning of Ramadan, our enthusiasm for worship is high. Mosques are full, the recitation of the Qur’an can be heard everywhere, charity flows smoothly, optional acts of worship are performed completely, and other good deeds are done.

However, ironically, when Ramadan reaches its midpoint, that enthusiasm begins to fade. The acts of worship and good deeds that were initially performed regularly begin to be forgotten, optional worship and charity begin to be neglected, and the enthusiasm for reciting the Qur’an begins to feel like a burden, so it is abandoned.

In this situation, it becomes important for us to revisit the essence of consistency in religion. We need to understand that consistency is not just about maintaining high enthusiasm at certain times, but about consistently maintaining obedience in all conditions and circumstances.

Allah SWT has promised a very special reward for those who do so, namely paradise, which is full of eternal bliss. As stated in the Qur’an, Allah SWT says:

“Indeed, those who say, ‘Our Lord is Allah,’ and then remain steadfast, the angels descend upon them, [saying], ‘Do not fear any evil and do not grieve, for you are the inheritors of Paradise.’” (QS. Fussilat: 30).

The verse above explains that those who believe in Allah and then remain steadfast will receive a guarantee of security and happiness from Allah SWT. Consistency can simply be defined as steadfastness in faith and Islam, and consistency in carrying out Allah’s commands and avoiding His prohibitions in any condition.

Therefore, let us re-organise our worship. There is no need to force ourselves with difficult practices that are hard to maintain. Just choose small, realistic practices that we can consistently maintain.

Wassalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

  1. Ramadan with Impact

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

Dear brothers and sisters, may Allah bless you. In this holy month, let us realise “Ramadan with Impact” through three aspects of growth, namely the quantity, quality, and capacity of worship.

In terms of quantity, increase the volume of worship compared to the previous year. If you have completed the recitation of the Qur’an once, increase it to twice this year, and so on. Likewise, charity and the frequency of prayers should also be continuously increased.

For quality, reflection in every act of worship is also important, for example, when reading the Qur’an, it should be accompanied by an understanding of its meaning, not just reading it. The quality of prayer should be continuously improved so that it can prevent evil and immoral acts.

In addition, in terms of the capacity of worship, the increase in personal capacity must be correlated with social piety. The piety of a Muslim must be able to radiate and influence the surrounding environment so that it also does good.

These three aspects of growth are expected to give rise to a person who is increasingly faithful and grows holistically. That is the essence of Ramadan, which is expected to continue to have an impact and bring positive changes to oneself and the surrounding environment.

Wassalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

  1. Patience is the Path to Victory

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

In Islam, facing life’s difficulties is referred to as patience. Patience in facing the bitterness of fate is not a sign of weakness, but rather, patience in facing the bitterness of fate is a sign of true strength. Allah Ta’ala says:

“O you who have believed, seek help through Allah and be patient and pray. Indeed, Allah is with those who are patient.” (QS. Al-Baqarah. Verse 153).

This verse affirms that patience is a means of help for believers in facing every trial they face. This means that patience allows us to accept what has happened and trust that Allah SWT has a better plan for us. With patience, we can overcome difficulties, learn from mistakes, and grow into stronger and wiser individuals.

The last part of the verse also represents a special provision from Allah Ta’ala for His servants who are patient. That Allah will always be with those who are patient in undergoing all the provisions that Allah gives them.

Therefore, patience here becomes one of the most special ways to achieve true victory, namely being together with the Lord of the universe who governs all the paths of destiny that we go through.

Moreover, we are currently in the holy month of Ramadan, a very noble month. Let us make the most of this noble month by cultivating noble morals, namely patience.

Wassalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

  1. Guarding Our Speech, Guarding the Blessings of Fasting

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

When performing the fast, it is not only the obligatory acts that we need to pay attention to, but also the recommended acts and things that will protect the blessings of our fast. One important thing that can protect the blessings of our fast is guarding our speech.

The command…
