7 Dead in Bekasi Train Collision, Prabowo Orders Investigation and Flyover Construction
President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has instructed a comprehensive investigation into the fatal collision between the long-distance Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the KRL Commuter Line in East Bekasi, which killed seven people on Monday (27/4/2026).
“Of course, we are all saddened and shocked by the accident that has occurred. I extend my condolences on a personal level and on behalf of the government. And we will immediately conduct an investigation into what happened,” said Prabowo after visiting the victims being treated at Bekasi City Hospital, West Java, on Tuesday (28/4/2026) morning.
According to him, the level crossing area, which is unguarded and lacks proper safety facilities, needs to be investigated and evaluated immediately.
He also stated that he has approved the construction of a flyover in the area, with the budget prepared directly by the central government to prevent similar incidents.
From his visit, Prabowo noted that medical services are running optimally and are currently treating 54 injured victims at Bekasi City Hospital.
Prabowo also assured that the accident victims will receive compensation and reimbursement for the incident.
He further mentioned that rail transport remains one of the mainstays of public mobility at present.
Therefore, evaluation of the safety of level crossings and the construction of the flyover must be carried out immediately to ensure safety.
Previously reported, the collision occurred between the Cikarang-bound KRL train number PLB 5568A and the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek on the Gambir–Surabaya Pasar Turi route around 20:52 WIB on Monday night.
The incident site was at the platform of East Bekasi Station KM 28+920.
As a result of the incident, seven KRL passengers died, and 81 others were injured.
The victims have been evacuated to several health facilities, including Bekasi City Hospital, RS Bella Bekasi, RS Primaya, RS Mitra Plumbon Cibitung, RS Bakti Kartini, RS Siloam East Bekasi, RS Hermina, as well as RS Mitra Keluarga East and West Bekasi.
Meanwhile, 240 passengers on the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek were reported safe.
