64,985 Vehicles Leave Jakarta via MBZ Toll Road on Wednesday, Up 198%
Ahead of Eid, PT Jasamarga Jalanlayang Cikampek (JJC) recorded 64,985 vehicles leaving Jakarta via the Mohammed Bin Zayed Elevated Toll Road (MBZ) on Wednesday (18/3). “Based on traffic data, the volume of vehicles leaving Jakarta was recorded at 64,985 vehicles, significantly higher than normal traffic of 21,787 vehicles, representing an increase of 198.27 percent,” said General Manager of Operations and Maintenance at PT Jasamarga Jalanlayang Cikampek, Desti Anggraeni, in a statement on Thursday (19/3). On the other hand, the volume of vehicles heading to Jakarta was recorded at 28,788 vehicles, or an increase of 30.32 percent compared to normal traffic of 22,090 vehicles. Overall, the total number of vehicles passing through the MBZ Elevated Road section in both directions reached 93,773 vehicles. The number of vehicles leaving Jakarta was greater than those heading to Jakarta. Due to the increased vehicle volume, Desti said, a policy of opening and closing access to the MBZ Elevated Toll Road was implemented to ease congestion. “As a result of the still high vehicle volume on the MBZ Elevated Road section, traffic engineering in the form of situational opening and closing of entry access towards Cikampek is carried out at the discretion of the police,” Desti stated. This measure, Desti added, was taken to reduce vehicle density, including at the KM 48 exit due to the convergence of traffic flows from the Jakarta-Cikampek section. Furthermore, Desti advised road users passing through the MBZ Elevated Road section to always prioritise safety. Road users are expected to ensure that the driver’s condition and vehicle are in prime condition, maintain sufficient battery power and fuel (BBM). “And anticipate potential weather changes, especially rain that can affect visibility and road surface conditions, so that the journey can proceed safely and comfortably until reaching the destination,” Desti said.
